Bill Cipher, referred to as Bill, is the main antagonist in the 2012 Disney Channel/Disney XD animated series Gravity Falls, created and voiced by the series creator, Alex Hirsch.[1] The character is also the subject of the Cipher hunt and the protagonist of The Book of Bill. [2][3] He is a one-eyed pyramid resembling the Eye of Providence. A dream demon who exists outside of the physical world, his primary goal is to gain a physical form and terrorize the town’s inhabitants.
Before his major appearance, Bill’s likeness is found within the background of episodes. The show’s theme song ends with a small frame of a wheel of icons with Bill at the center. Bill would be introduced in the episode “Dreamscaperers” after being summoned by Stan Pines‘ enemy Gideon Gleeful. Bill would become the main antagonist in Season 2.
Character and concept
Bill was created and designed by creator Alex Hirsch. Bill’s design was based on the Eye of Providence, found on the back of the United States one-dollar bill. Bill was originally intended to be green in early concept designs, but was changed to yellow after Hirsch claims it looked too much like a leaf.
