Creative Software is a Sri Lankan information technology company that provides offshore software development and team augmentation services for international clients. The company is headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka.[1]

History

Creative Software was founded in 1999, by Jonas Bridgwater, Sushena Ranatunga, Sajith Peiris, and Johann Senaratna. The company initially focused on building dedicated software engineering teams for clients in Scandinavia, particularly in Norway and Sweden, before expanding to service clients across Europe, North America and Australia.[2]

In 2017, Swedish AI accounting firm Wint selected Creative Software as its development partner in Sri Lanka to expand its engineering team.[3]

In 2018, Creative Software entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) to establish an IT research and development centre for undergraduates, under which the company provided research opportunities and entrepreneurial support to students working on commercially viable software projects.[4]

In 2020, the company partnered with the University of Moratuwa on a research project in autonomous vehicle technology, focusing on machine learning and artificial intelligence applications. The collaboration aimed to develop a Level 4 autonomous driving system over a five-year period.[5]

In 2022, the company reported a workforce of over 700 technology professionals.[2] The company holds Microsoft Gold Partner status and achieved ISO/IEC 27001 certification for information security management.[6]

In 2024, Creative Software marked its 25th year of operations.[1]

Industry involvement

Director Sushena Ranatunga has been quoted in Sri Lankan media on topics relating to the country’s software industry, including the importance of developing software product ownership and intellectual property among the local engineers, rather than solely providing outsourced development resources to foreign companies.[7]

The company received recognition at the National Business Excellence Awards, organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, including an award for excellence in business and financial results in the medium sector category in 2018.[8]

Creative Software has also been referenced in industry initiatives related to workforce diversity. In 2022, the company was featured in a Microsoft Asia Pacific report on employment diversity in Sri Lanka, which highlighted participation by local technology firms in inclusive hiring and workforce development efforts.[6]
