The Mohammed VI Investment Fund (French: Fonds Mohammed VI pour l’Investissement; FM6I) is a Moroccan state-owned investment fund established in 2021 to support productive investment in sectors regarded as strategic for the national economy. Created in 2021, it operates as a public limited company wholly owned by the Moroccan state. Its headquarters are in Rabat.[1][2]
The fund was announced in 2020 in the context of Morocco’s economic recovery measures following the COVID-19 pandemic.[3]
History
The creation of the fund was announced in July 2020, and Draft Law No. 76-20 was adopted later that year.[4]
FM6I forms part of a broader set of investment and financing reforms introduced in the early 2020s. International institutions have identified it as a component of Morocco’s post-pandemic investment framework.[5]
The operational rollout of the fund accelerated during the mid-2020s. The fund has supported the creation of thematic investment vehicles, including a set of 14 sectoral funds.[6]
In May 2025, Nezha Hayat succeeded Mohamed Benchaâboun as chief executive officer.[7]
Activities
A major component of the fund’s model is the creation of thematic and sectoral sub-funds managed by external asset managers. By 2025, 14 such funds had been established.[6][8]
The fund has also participated in partnerships with international financial institutions. In 2021, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) signed an agreement with the Moroccan government to support implementation of the fund.[9]
In 2023, the fund and the African Development Bank signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen investment financing.[10]
In 2025, the fund participated in a consortium involving TAQA Morocco and Nareva for energy and desalination projects.[11][12]
Mandate
The fund finances and supports investment projects and enterprises operating in sectors considered strategic for the Moroccan economy.[13][14]
