Silver hypobromite is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula AgBrO.[1][2][3] It is an ionic compound of silver and the polyatomic ion hypobromite. It decomposes very rapidly even at room temperature.[4]
Synthesis
Silver hypobromite can be prepared by the oxidation of silver sub-bromide:[5]
- 4 Ag2Br + 4 H2O + 3 O2 → 4 AgOBr + 4 AgOH + 2 H2O
It can also be prepared by the reaction of silver hydroxide and hypobromous acid:[citation needed]
- AgOH + BrHO → AgBrO + H2O
