Lead image?

Trying to think of whether it would make sense to have a dedicated lead image, infobox or something similar for the present article or no. Casspedia (talk) 22:03, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Rename article?

The current title as of writing (Grok sexual deepfake scandal) is in my opinion biased and misleading. Normally, a scandal is when something almost universally outrageous occurs at the order or direction of a small number of people or entities. I would argue that the situation described here should be titled and treated as a controversy, which is when two or more parties of considerable size or influence relative to the situation enter a dispute.

The Sony BMG copy protection rootkit scandal article is a good example of a scandal (a single large company attempting to exercise excessive control over people’s computers), and the Epstein files controversy is a good example of a controversy (two powerful groups of people fighting over how, when, and if the files should be provided to the general public). oppose that logic feels a little WP:ORy. What do sources use?—blindlynx 19:00, 18 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
This source does not refer to it as a scandal. GrinningIodize (talk) 22:23, 18 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
a single source not calling it a ‘scandal’ isn’t a good argument. That source also doesn’t call it a ‘controversy’.
There are good sources that call it a ‘scandal’ btw [1], [2]blindlynx 14:37, 19 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose – I don’t see sources which say this. Guz13 (talk) 19:55, 18 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose per Wikipedia definitions of “controversy” versus “scandal”:
  • “A scandal can be broadly defined as the strong social reactions of outrage, anger, or surprise, when accusations or rumours circulate or appear for some reason, regarding a person or persons who are perceived to have transgressed, in some way, a social norm. These reactions are usually noisy and may be conflicting, and they often have negative effects on the status and credibility of the persons or organizations involved.”
  • Controversy (UK: /kənˈtrɒvəsi/, US: /ˈkɒntrəvɜːrsi/)[1][2] is a state of prolonged public dispute or debate, usually concerning a matter of conflicting opinion or point of view. The word was coined from the Latin controversia, as a composite of controversus – “turned in an opposite direction”, and also means an exercise in rhetoric practiced in Rome.”
The nature of the reactions to Grok generating deepfake pornography is more reminiscent of a scandal (outrage, anger, or surprise), especially given the criminal nature of such pornography, rather than a mere controversy (“prolonged public dispute or debate”); in the present case, the way politicians, media, and civil society worldwide have reacted stems more from outrage than controversy. Casspedia (talk) 16:37, 19 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
If it’s a scandal, then why is it titled about Grok, a company, and not the people abusing it for deepfakes? GrinningIodize (talk) 16:50, 19 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
As Grok is the platform enabling said deepfakes to be generated. It’s the common denominator. Casspedia (talk) 17:01, 19 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
But when gun stores sell guns to people who turn out to shoot innocent people to death, we don’t call it a “gun store scandal”. GrinningIodize (talk) 18:23, 19 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
