Unity is a 100% New Zealand-owned financial co-operative, with a head office in Hastings, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, and branch locations in Hastings, Lower Hutt, Napier, Waipukurau, Kawerau, Rotorua, Dunedin and Invercargill.

Unity provides financial services including personal loans, home loans, savings accounts, and transactional banking to its members throughout New Zealand. As a member-owned co-operative, its profits are reinvested for the benefit of its members and the communities it serves.

History

Originally established in 1971 in Hawke’s Bay as Whakatu Freezing Works Employees’ Credit Union, it later became NZCU Baywide.[1]  

In 2019, NZCU South, NZCU Central and Aotearoa Credit Union merged with NZCU Baywide. The combined entity was subsequently rebranded as Unity Credit Union (trading as Unity) in 2021.[2]

The current Chief Executive is Kevin Hughes, who was appointed to the role in April 2023.[3] [4]
