Good Wikipedia Things

  • On January 27th, 2012, Dinosaurs came back to life.[1]
  • There are many “good Wikipedia things” in Category:Fictional cats, but specifically I like Ray cat. Even though we do not yet have animals that have been genetically modified in such a drastic and unconventional way, the article shows that humans in the late 20th and early 21st centuries were very interested in the idea. My prediction is that humans will continue to be interested in “Ray cats” (among other novel variants) and the concept will be brought to reality some day. It will then be interesting for people of the future to go back several decades & centuries and see what the wikipedia page looked like in the past.
  • Wikipedia as source of historic insight into contemporary culture & knowledge is among its most important functions. This documentation is not generally done intentionally, and as far as I know is not a stated mission of Wikipedia (which prefers to cover topics in the most encyclopedic and neutral way possible). Cultural leaks & preservation of historic knowledge-states happen as a function of Wikipedia anyway, like listed in the above two bullet points. One historic example we can look back on already is the earliest page revisions of the September 11th attacks.
