Sorry to have to ask so explicitly, but my renom for Robert Jacomb-Hood, which has been through a PR, hasn’t received any attention since it was nominated on Wednesday, while more recent nominations have. I am working on your three most recent GAN nominations, so in return, please may you help with my nomination, as I want to clear space and workload to nominate the articles I want to work on during the Core Contest. Thank you for your time, JacobTheRox(talk | contributions) 16:47, 4 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Minor tube station article fiddling

As someone making massively positive contributions to tube station articles, do you have any thoughts on the actions of the editor who is mass-editing tube station articles to create short sentences in the lead and replace infobox image captions? I must admit it’s bugging me but I’m wondering if I should just get a life and let it slide? 10mmsocket (talk) 10:16, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Don’t let it consume your time, that’s my advice. You’ll end up feeling frustrated. I try not to get involved in these minor changes where the article is very short or will need substantial rewriting anyway, unless the information introduced is plain wrong. Otherwise it will occupy too much of my time that could be better spent. MRSC (talk) 10:29, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Good advice – although I did revert just now which plain wrong. Thanks. 10mmsocket (talk) 10:34, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, not sure if you’re still handling this template, but it’s behaving oddly. At Chiswick for instance, it returns a citation like

“Great Britain Historical GIS / University of Portsmouth, Chiswick parish (historic map). Retrieved {{{accessdate}}}.”

Tube station names

Sorry I’ve not managed to review all your GANs as I’m really busy irl. I will see if I can do them all today but no promises. I have a copy of the book Why Do Shepherds Need a Bush?, which gives the etymology of all London Underground station names and some national rail stations. I think it’s a really nice detail and some of your District Line articles do have station naming reasons in them. What would you think about me adding the etymology to all these articles, except the really simple ones (e.g. Westminster is named after the area, duh)? I’m wary of making 200+ of these edits without any consensus so wanted to know what you thought. JacobTheRox(talk | contributions) 11:40, 2 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, don’t worry about that. Plenty of time to review these. I have that book. I also have Harris, What’s in Name? I think I was put off using these because the first place I looked up, Elm Park, wasn’t a very satisfactory explanation. Hilliam says “This name speaks for itself”. Harris says “takes it’s name from natural local woodland”. But the name according to sources specific to the place say it was devised by Costain for the housing development and comes from Elm Farm on which it was built (the “park” bit is a typical developer marketing). So, my advice is to use these sources only in conjunction with other sources specific to the site for a sense check. For older names the problem might be competing interpretations. MRSC (talk) 13:24, 2 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Talk page stalker jumping in for a second. I only think this would be useful for stations that are not named after the place where they are (very obviously) located. Quickly looking down the List of London Underground stations I am drawn to Barons Court, Roding Valley, Stamford Brook, and Temple. Otherwise I would think that the toponymy belongs in the place after which the station is named. Sorry if I’m missing the point somehow. 10mmsocket (talk) 13:37, 2 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Executive arrangements

On the recent change to the Executive arrangements article, what I noticed is that the 2026 devolution is already mentioned in its own section, and details what the changes are, so the change you made to the committee subsection seems a bit redundant. But it also seems to contradict it a bit. Do you agree? It sounds as if it very much will force most operating under that arrangement to change to leader & cabinet and that only a minority won’t be forced to change, immediately. And even in that case, I think those forced to review their committee arrangement implies that they want them moved to leader & cabinet and that the “review” is the means by which to pressure them to do that.

What do you think? Should we just leave mention of the 2026 reforms in the section dedicated to that? Criticalthinker (talk) 06:46, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I hadn’t spotted that unreferenced section. Will take a look. Thanks for letting me know. MRSC (talk) 06:47, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
